San Frediano has artistic treasures such as the Basilica of Santa Maria del Carmine (Brancacci Chapel, decorated by Masaccio), the church of Santo Spirito (signed by Brunelleschi, in the sacristy preserves the crucifix made in youth by Michelangelo) and that of the Cestello, which took today the title of church of San Frediano.

The first square you come across, entering San Frediano, is Piazza del Tiratoio that will take you back in time. The name, in fact, derives from the wool processing factory that once was here. Continuing on, we find Piazza Piattellina, with its particular triangular shape, formerly called Piazza degli Orpellai, because here there were many artisan shops that worked the copper plates to decorate the leather. Later we have Piazza Verzaia where there is an important and exclusive school of painting. Finally there is Piazza Tasso, which preserves historical memories related to the First World War, today it has become the meeting place for the Florentine inhabitants of the neighborhood and for those who really want to experience the real Florence.

5 Things to do for becoming real Florentines

Palazzo Vecchio

Palazzo Vecchio

In Florence you can live as tourists or travelers, it is a truly international city. But after a few weeks, you really need to become an authentic Florentine. We – at Tuscan Feeling – suggest you to do 5 things to do for becoming authentic Florentines!

5 Things to do for becoming real Florentines

5 Things to do for becoming real Florentines

1) We start from the night. To become true Florentines, one must do something really romantic: admiring the dawn from Piazzale Michelangelo. The panorama, from this historic square just outside the city, is really breathtaking, and it’s the right way to end a night of excesses with a bit of poetry. You arrive by car through Michelangelo Avenue, or climb up the countless steps of the Poggi Ramps that start from the square of the same name. From the belvedere you can admire the Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo, the Bargello, and in the distance the hills of Fiesole and Settignano.

2) The rite of initiation to Florentine life is to taste a typical sandwich to the tripe of bovine: the lampredotto, accompanied by a glass of wine. Quite simply, you can enjoy this Florentine delight on your feet, beside the ‘trippaio’. The panino should be seasoned with green sauce or spicy oil, or you may even be asked to soak the upper breadcrumb in the hot sauce. In via de ‘Macci or in the square of Porta Romana you find the best place around. And you may have the chance to meet there someone from Tuscan Feeling‘s staff…

3) Wine – especially red – is one of Florentine ‘excellence’. Drinking wine, moderately, is the best way to become true Florentines. You can choose among the best wine shops in the city, or choose a crowded and popular place, but definitely typical. A glass of wine accompanied by a good ‘schacciata’ is the best thing to do. The Antique Vinaio in via de ‘Neri is attended by students, workers, professionals, tourists, simple people, artists, lawyers, university professors and many others. The salami and cheese counter is a spectacle for the eyes and the prices are low.

4) One of the most typical things for the Florentines is to eating, anytime, an ice cream in the Badiani shop in Viale dei Mille. When you enter this beautiful ice cream parlor you can see the elegance of the furnishings and the great variety of tastes of the ice creams. Badiani get of his reputation for the “Buontalenti Creme” invention (they got the copyright), a delicate cream and cream flavor, also used to enrich coffee and hot chocolate in lieu of milk or cream.

5) To be really a Florentine – there are few alternatives – you have to support the local football team: Fiorentina. It’s hard to understand and explain what it’s like to be a Fiorentina die hard supporter. The link between city and team is very strong. Whoever loves Fiorentina knows that victory is a sort of utopia, but when it comes, it has eternal emotions that will never be forgotten by successive generations, such as the two defeated champions: the first in 1956 and the second in 1969. Joys and sorrows, but that are an integral part of being Florentine. The team got purple colors, and there are few football teams in the world with the same colors. That’s why, the Fiorentina are called also Viola (purple in italian). Are you ready to say: ‘Alé Viola’?

1) The Church of San Miniato al Monte

The church of San Miniato al Monte is a real place to discover! Less known than other church for its less central location (it is located above piazzale Michelangelo), it is the oldest (the oratory dates back to the 3rd century AD) in town. A superb architecture, gives it a special charm from the top of its position, the church majestically dominate the whole city. The light is low and from the semi-darkness there are golden lamps, marble columns, the floor is covered with tombs. The abbey still hosts Benedictine monks, who prepare cakes and handicrafts, and overall gives a rare sense of intimacy and solemnity.

The Stibbert Museum

About Florence city of arts, we have to mention the Stibbert Museum, located just outside the historic center, in the villa of the same name belonged to an English nobleman. His great passione & love for antiquity, as well as his money, has allowed his residence to become a true museum with more than 50,000 pieces that make up his private collection: from porcelain to furniture, from clothes to famous medieval armor. The Japanese collection is the largest in the world outside of Japan. At Frederick Stibbert’s death the entire fortune was donated to the city of Florence.

The Museum Home of Rodolfo Siviero

The Casa Rodolfo Siviero Museum, more commonly known as Casa Siviero, is located on the lungarno Serristori, in the district of Oltrarno in Florence. It is a neo-Renaissance style building designed by Giuseppe Poggi, the greatest creator of the transformations of the city in 1800. Rodolfo Siviero was a minister in the 1950s, but mainly engaged in recovering many of the most important artworks stolen illegally during World War II, bringing them back to our country. Upon his disappearance in 1983 he donated his home with a collection of works of art and his library to the Tuscany region, which opened the premises on the ground floor as a house-museum. Among the best works are some 14th-century polychrome wooden statues, painted with gold, crockery, bronze, reliquary and antique furniture. There are also works of contemporary artists to whom he was linked with friendships (Ardengo Soffici, Giorgio De Chirico, Pietro Annigoni, Giacomo Manzù).

Villa medicea La Petraia

The Villa Medicea La Petraia is located in the hilly area of Castello, in via Petraia 40 in Florence. It is considered one of the most beautiful and celebrated Medici villas, located in a panoramic position overlooking the city of Florence. The property had the Brunelleschi family as the first owner and then, after long strikes, passed to the Medici. In 1587 Cardinal Ferdinand became Grand Duke made radical changes to the structure of the building: the fourteenth-century central tower was converted into a belvedere but the most significant changes took place in the garden. The space was divided into three magnificent terraces: in the first were orchards of dwarf plants, the second was adorned by flowerbeds, and the third was occupied by two large elliptical areas structured with trees and citrus. The villa is surrounded by greenery: on the front, in a panoramic position to the city, there are the formal gardens, while the backside extends the large English park. The formal gardens are divided on three levels, taking advantage of the irregular slope of the hill. The tallest terrace on the floor of the building, with a large view of Florence, is composed of two large gardens; The east one is called the lawn of the figurine and the one west of the Ponente Plane or lawn of the chestnut trees.2722px; left: 135px;”>Salva</span>

Vendere casa e trovare acquirenti stranieri

Appartamento Rufus

Appartamento Rufus

Vendere casa e trovare acquirenti stranieri?

Rural House Allegria in Tuscany

Rural House Allegria in Tuscany

1) Vendita in esclusiva oppure no?

Petrognano – Tuscan Feeling

Tuscan Feeling

Tuscan Feeling

4) Prezzi diversi in posti diversi

Molto probabilmente no.

Craft Beers and Pubs in Florence: The Top 5

Beer in Florence

Beer in Florence

We love craft beer, better if locally produced. Of course, we (at Tuscan Feeling) never drink when we are working! The work of real estate agents, around Florence, between apartments in historic buildings, villas and hi-tech loft is very complicated and challenging. No time to drink a beer during the day! At night, however, everything is different and we like to taste craft beers, exclusive labels and follow the local breweries.

Craft Beers in Florence

Craft Beers in Florence

A great movement of small producers of craft beer was born in Italy, in the last decade, and has been able to quickly gain the respect of international critics and the public. In Tuscany, there are plenty of craft breweries and in the province of Firenze there are more than 30 at least. It’s true that Italy is famous for its extraordinary wine, but beer has always been produced here, since the ancient Romans times! The first florentine beer factory was founded in 1792 and the site where actually the Hard Rock Café is, during the nineteenth century, was the largest and most beautiful pub in town.

Braumeister Firenze

Braumeister Firenze

1) Braumeister – Via Madonna Della Tosse 12r

The Braumeister is just behind Piazza della Libertà. It started as a brewery and a Bavarian restaurant, but quickly evolved, becoming a reference point for beer fans. In addition to the Bavarian dishes, they serve tasty pizzas and traditional Italian desserts. The huge countertop in copper has 20 taps, most of them with Italian craft beers from italian microbreweries: Birrificio Italiano, Petrognola from Garfagnana, Birra del Borgo and ToccailMatto. In addition, there’s a choice of bottles of fine brands (Belgian, American, British and Italian) to choose from an excellent beer list.

Mostodolce

Mostodolce

2) Mostodolce – Via Nazionale 114 R

Mostodolce, in via Nazionale, has a wide selection of strictly artisan beers: Pepita, Fox, Ale Hammer, the American Pale Ale Morgana, the Black Doll Stout, the tasty Saison Arch, plus the seasonal Christmas beer, brewed with locale tuscan chestnut flour. Here you will also find sweets of beer as the Birramisù and the Mosto’s Strudelino.

The Book Pub

The Book Pub

3) The Book Pub – Piazza Lorenzo Ghiberti 11/12 R

An old-fashioned pub with books, newspapers and games available. The Book Pub is in Piazza Lorenzo Ghiberti and it has seven taps in addition to twenty brands with a large focus on European niche products. We recommended the delightful beers of the Birrificio Italiano: the most famous Italian microbrewery.

Diorama

Diorama

4) Diorama – Via Pisana, 78r

Recently opened and located in the Oltrarno district, the Diorama is a restaurant fully dedicated to craft beers. Just eight tables and some stools at the countertop.
On tap are six Italian and foreign beers, including the wonderful IPA produced by microbrewery Lorem Ipsum Florence. The beer list has eighty labels from around the world. The cuisine is typically Florentine. And ‘one of the trendiest places on the scene of the Florentine craft breweries.

Il Bovaro

Il Bovaro

5) Il Bovaro – Via Pisana, 3r

Bovaro produces craft beer and makes direct pouring. The restaurant is very popular and characteristic, located in a a place built during the middle age, just in front of Porta San Frediano. The beer is pasteurized and naturally produced, the choice is limited to the beers produced, which are very good. Here you can eat and the food is really excellent. It is best to book in advance, since the place is always full.
